Luxury student flats plan for Exeter landmark

Plan have been unveiled to build hundreds of luxury student flats in two huge tower blocks either side of Exeter’s Renslade House.

It could become one of the biggest and most striking developments in a long line of new builds and conversions for student accommodation across the city.

The scheme envisages demolishing the two wings either side of the main tower block, and replace them with two new towers for around 400 students.

A public meeting to hear more about the new student accommodation plans will be held next week.

It is being run by Devon planning consultancy Maria Bailey Planning.

Ms Bailey said details were still being worked on, but developers are looking at 400 “units of accommodation”, which is one for each student.

“There will be some refurbishment of the Renslade House tower and, if possible, we might be able to carry out some work that might make it look a little prettier – but the main focus would be to improve internally,” she said.

“As for the two student blocks, we would be looking to produce high-quality student accommodation with particular emphasis for the needs of foreign students attending the University of Exeter.
