Ormskirk pub set to be developed into student accommodation

“Plans to transform an Ormskirk pub into student flats have been submitted to councillors.

The proposal to turn The Windmill Inn on Wigan Road into student accommodation has been put forward by McComb Property Company.

The scheme is set to provide 33 rooms within the existing building and a new block located on part of the bowling green at the back.

The design and access statement submitted with the application said: “The pub itself is no longer trading and the building is in a poor state of repair.

“The development includes the full refurbishment of the listed building, providing a long-term future for the property.

“Extensive landscaping will replace the majority of the bowling green and will enhance the street scenes of Windmill Avenue and Mill Street.”

All of the rooms will have access to one of three lounge areas and a private garden.

The existing toilet block will be demolished and replaced with a new extension and the yard will be replaced with a new secure cycle and refuse store. There will be limited car parking available.

The development has been designed to fit in with the existing street scene and period sash windows will be installed to match those in Wigan Road.
