B&Q to be torn down and replaced with 500 student flats – Southampton

A DIY retail store in Southampton could be torn down and replaced by flats for more than 500 students.

As revealed in the Daily Echo in November B&Q is set to close its outlet in Mayfield Road next month. B&Q opened its first ever store in Portswood Road in the 1960s before opening its Mayfield Road outlet 28 years ago.
And plans have now been handed in to replace the store  with a £32m flats development, which could create hundreds of jobs. However, the firm announced that the store would shut on February 28 after its lease was not renewed by the landlord.

The company did not confirm how many jobs would be lost in the closure.

Now Peveril Securities and Britel Fund Trustees Ltd have come forward with plans to redevelop the site …
