New moves in “tombstone” fire station plan in Birmingham

The developer behind a £50 million plan to build student accommodation on the site of Birmingham’s former Central Fire Station has hit back fiercely at a “tombstone” tag.

North Wales-based Watkin Jones said the development would provide “800 of the most modern and best appointed student rooms and flats” in the UK.

Plans to build student flats and studios within the landmark 1930s building – as well as a new tower in the courtyard – are due to be considered by Birmingham City Council’s planning committee next month …
