Scots get 7% fewer places at university

Record numbers of Scots missed out on a university place this year, prompting calls for the Scottish Government to protect higher education from funding cuts.

Official figures show there was a 6.9% decline in the number of Scots going to Scottish universities in 2010 compared to the previous year, with figures falling from 27,194 to 25,307.
