City challenge to house students – Exeter
The University of Exeter is expanding from about 11,000 full-time equivalent students at its Exeter campuses in 2006 to an intended 15,700 by 2015.
The university contributes very significantly to the local economy and the social and cultural life of the city. Inevitably it also raises issues about where the extra students will live.
Prior to the current expansion phase, about 4,000 students lived in purpose-built student accommodation and about 6,000 in the private sector, largely in about 1,200 shared houses. The remainder lived at home or outside the city …
