Further changes to HMO planning class rules
The Coalition Government has gone some way to alleviating the ill-considered changes made by the former Labour Government to the Planning Use Classes. Unfortunately, it is not prepared to revoke these changes, despite what the Conservatives said in opposition.
New changes effective from October 1, 2010, will mean:
The new Class C4 for small HMOs introduced on April 6 will remain. This includes smaller shared houses and bedsits where there are between three and six occupants who share a kitchen, toilet or bathroom in a property in the private rented sector.
