Two student developments planned for Cardiff

Cardiff’s student housing boom looks set to continue with new plans submitted for two major developments in the city centre.

If approved by Cardiff council’s planning committee the schemes would see the creation of almost 280 extra student beds.

It comes after a 348-bed tower was recently approved at Mynachdy and St Andrews Lane and a bid for a 250-bed scheme on City Road awaits consent. Local development company Charnwood Group wants to build a 79-bedroom student accommodation building, with 200 square metres of retail space, at 23-24 Park Place.

Elsewhere, Cardiff-based developer JR Smart wants to transform Shand House, at the junction of Newport Road and Fitzalan Place in the city centre, into a 198 student bed dorm …
