The consortium behind multi-million pound plans to turn a former mental hospital into student digs has named the firm that would run the accommodation.

If given planning permission to convert the former County Hospital, off North Road, Durham, Sladen Estates, Peveril Securities and Helios Properties would deploy Victoria Hall to manage the development. he group said Victoria Hall managed more than 9,000 bed spaces across the UK and won an award for its quality student accommodation for the fourth consecutive year at last year’s National Student Housing Awards.

A former mill in Bradford city centre may soon be transformed into a block of studio flats for the student population, with a “rat infested” plot of land next to it turned into a garden.

Property developer Narinder Sekhon plans to remove the roof of Industry Mills on Sudgen Street, build an extra two floors on the building and convert the property into 139 studio flats.

Unite Students, the UK’s leading developer and manager of student accommodation, has completed the purchase of a one acre site in the centre of Aberdeen.

The site was acquired from Aberdeen City Council in February 2014 subject to planning permission, which was granted in December 2014.  The site, currently occupied by the derelict listed Causewayend school building, has been vacant for several years and the target of vandalism.

The proposals will regenerate the site and surrounding area with extensive refurbishment to the stone façade, a new roof for the school building and replacement sash windows, bringing the building back to its former glory …
