Plans for Student Accommodation next to St James’ Park Newcastle are submitted to planners
Plans to transform a key site in Newcastle city centre with a £50m mixed-use development are set to go before planners.
Marrico Asset Management LLP have submitted their plans for land in the shadow of St James’ Park, which will see the area around St James Metro Station redeveloped for offices, flats, student accommodation and a range of ground flood retail premises.
The Journal and Chronicle were first to reveal Doncaster-based Marrico’s intentions to develop land in the shadow of St James’ Park after original, and well advanced, plans for a hotel, retail and housing complex collapsed in August when it emerged the club’s owner, Mike Ashley, had decided to look into other options for the land himself.
The new proposals – drawn up by Newcastle architects Faulkner Browns – include substantial improvements to landscaping within and around the Strawberry Place site, including the Sir Bobby Robson Memorial Garden, for which the Yorkshire development firm has worked in consultation with Lady Elsie Robson and the Bobby Robson Foundation.
