Student flats plan for construction firm HQ

The HQ of a construction firm near Everton Park in north Liverpool could soon be demolished and replaced with a 348 student bedroom under newly submitted plans.

The development team behind the scheme have claimed the proposal would regenerate ‘a prominent brownfield eyesore’ site with a flagship building.

DJP and Nobles Construction have jointly lodged a full planning application with Liverpool City Council to demolish the existing buildings on a 1.2 acre site between Iliad Street and Clegg Street and replace it with two tower blocks incorporating 274 cluster study rooms and 74 studio rooms along with 66 cycle stands.

Under the proposals, the ground floors would feature landscaped courtyard areas, leisure and community spaces, a laundry room and plant storage facilities, while the rooms would be spread over the upper floors.

A planning statement in support of the proposal has been produced by Roman Summer Associates.

It said: “The application proposes the regeneration of a prominent brownfield ‘eyesore’ site with a flagship building. The proposal will provide quality new student homes and will transform the site into an attractive, sustainable, vibrant and efficiently-used environment.”

The site is currently home to Nobles Construction. Established in 1995, the construction contractor now has a workforce of 58 and has delivered in excess of £50m over the past three years.

The statement added: “Although the site is adequate for the company’s basic accommodation needs, the company is keen to evolve and expand, and the current premises does not present the image which the company seeks to present to clients.

”The company is looking to relocate to another site in Liverpool to establish a new headquarters for the business. The sale of the site will be used (in part) to bolster the company’s bank fundings, which in turn will open up opportunities to pitch for higher value construction projects, in turn enabling the company to grow and diversify, with the associated potential to create more local jobs.“ …
