Liverpool student flats first in UK to be built abroad and shipped in on crates

A student development in Liverpool is the first in the UK to be built using bedrooms built abroad and shipped in crates to be stacked up on top of each other on site.

The technology behind the project on Hope Street allows individual “pods” to be assembled in Latvia, transported to the Mersey docks and then hoisted into place using a massive crane.

The Liverpool scheme – and land left clear after the demolition of Josephine Butler House – will see more than 300 students accommodated in the building once it is complete …
