A former Baptist Church in Huddersfield has been converted into student accommodation by a consortium of local businessmen.

The project to renovate the listed building was the first by the newly-formed property development company, Premier Student Lettings, which was established with the support of Lloyds TSB Commercial Banking.

A planning application for student accommodation on the two-acre site off Walmgate has been submitted to City of York Council by developers S Harrison Developments Ltd.

A firm headed by investor and former Dragon’s Den star James Caan has completed a deal to sell Bradford University’s £40 million student village to a Middle Eastern investor for an undisclosed sum.

The Green, which has one of the highest environmental ratings and includes townhouses and apartments with more than 1,000 bedrooms, has been acquired with advice from 90 North Real Estate Partners, a London-based investment firm chaired by Mr Caan.
