Application to build students flats in Manchester rejected

An application to build a giant block of student flats on the site of an old pub has been rejected by council planners.

Developers wanted to raise the 182-bedroom block on land measuring just 850 sq m in Hulme, Manchester.

The site is currently occupied by disused The Gamecock pub – which has been empty for several years and would be demolished.
