Former mill complex could become home to 400 students – Bath
McLaren Property is keen to develop the former Twerton Mill site at Lower Bristol Road into accommodation for up to 378 students. The five-storey building – now known as Carr’s Mill – would be demolished, but an old wall and gates would be preserved. The developer staged an exhibition in Twerton last week to show its plans to local residents before putting together a planning application. The accommodation would consist of a mixture of flats and townhouses, with facilities including a common room, gym, games room, laundry and cycle stands.
The mill, put up in the 19th century, houses a car repair garage, and two specialist electrical manufacturers.
A spokesman for Bath consultancy firm Meeting Place Communications, which organised the exhibition, said around 65 people had attended over two days. “The majority were very, very supportive, particularly of the design. There was a lot of support for the regeneration of the site.” ….
