Plans for student flats in centre of Plymouth defeated by objections

Plans to build “landmark” student flats in Plymouth city centre have been withdrawn in the face of fierce opposition.

The £12million scheme would have seen the boarded-up Good Companions pub bulldozed to make way for homes for 177 students in Mayflower Street, along with ground-floor commercial units. But developer Pillar Land Securities came up against strong opposition to the plans, particularly from the site’s adjoining next door neighbour.

The owner of the building, which is home to the Vibes Music shop, even warned they were prepared to seek a court injunction to halt building work …
