Chester council report highlights the way forward for student housing in the city.

A report commissioned by Chester Council has recommended that new large developments are not the solution to student housing problems in the city.

In October 2011 we reported that a large scale development had been proposed for the Blacon area of the city on a piece of greenfield land.

The report, which was released in January 2012 notes that such a large development of some 2,500 to 3,000 student beds would effectively eradicate small landlords from the city. Presently the total number of full time undergraduates in Chester living in private rented accommodation is around 2,400, so all those who rent could be accommodated in the proposed new campus …
