London heading for affordable student accommodation shortage

Investors’ focus on providing high-end accommodation for London’s international student market could mean the less affluent struggle to find accommodation, a report has found.
 
The study, by real estate advisor DTZ, warned that “London could be headed for a shortage of mid-priced student accommodation” as private developers target affluent overseas students in central, ‘Zone 1’ areas.
 
The research found that 83% of private, purpose-built student rooms are now located in Zones 1 and 2 (16,555 rooms). It said that 68% of university stock is also located in these central areas (24,810 rooms) …
