Plans to sell off part of a car park to build student accommodation could limit parking and affect businesses, according to traders in Oxford.
Developer Watkin Jones Group has put forward three options including a 13-storey tower block for St Clement’s car park near Magdalen College.

New figures have revealed the growing gulf between the number of University of York students and the amount of accommodation provided on campus.
The figures, obtained from the university by Osbaldwick Parish Council under the Freedom of Information Act, show in 1999/2000 there were 8,525 students and 3,100 bed spaces on campus.
But by 2009/10, the number of students had grown to 13,908, while the number of bed spaces had grown only to 4,679 …

Property developer Student Castle has been granted permission to build a 33-storey block of flats in Manchester.
The firm, backed by Carphone Warehouse founder Charles Dunstone, will create 520 student bedsits in Great Marlborough Street in a tower which will feature communal accommodation. It is scheduled for completion in 2012.

Last November Southwark Council’s planning committee approved the plans by Q Developments for the Conran & Partners-designed scheme known as Moonraker Alley at the junction of Great Suffolk Street and Pocock Street, immediately to the south of Blackfriars Crown Court.
