Plans to build 180 student flats at site of former Bangor nightclub

“A former post office turned nightclub in Bangor could now be transformed into flats.

The Embassy nightclub on Deiniol road in shut its doors last year, leaving the large city centre site empty.

But plans have now been submitted to build 180 flats, a cafe and a restaurant at the former nightspot.

Plans for the city-centre site have been drawn up by Matthew Jones Architects who are working on behalf of project bosses NW1 Property Ltd.

Matt Jones, Director of Matthew Jones Architects, said that a building of this age and type without a “sustainable beneficial use” would quickly deteriorate and be under threat.

“If the plans are given the go-ahead, a new five-storey building providing 151 student flats would be built, while a further 29 flats would be on the first and second floors of the current building.

The building, which dates back to 1909, closed as a post office in 2008 and lay empty until the Embassy nightclub opened at the site in 2011.

During its life as a club, the nightspot closed briefly and was taken on by new owners before shutting for good last year …
