Accommodation and the Estate
How student residential accommodation fits within a University’s estate varies considerably between universities and institutions.
What is true is that with the growth in student numbers the number of bed spaces and so buildings dedicated to accommodating students during their academic studies has grown to meet demand. In general, the profile of residences is broad covering both old stock and new builds. This means that for many institutions the offer is not standard. There are advantages to this as having a range of provision can not only meet different student financial budgets but also the differing types of student and their requirements. However, this brings challenges in terms of meeting student expectations.
